Yankee Jack Creek Cruise

Four yachts enjoy Squadron Yankee Jack Creek cruise weekend

Clear Autumn skies and generally light winds made for an enjoyable Yacht Squadron cruise week-end at Yankee Jack creek on the west coast of K’gari/Fraser Island - taking advantage of the show holiday long weekend.

The anchorage south of Kingfisher Bay and just off the Ungowa dogleg in the main channel, offers the advantage of sufficient water depth for both keel boats and shallow draft vessels. It has good protection from the south, east, and south west and some limited protection from the north-west quarter.due to nearby sandbanks and shallow water. Shallow draft vessels can sneak into shallower holes for pretty good all-round protection.

Tenders got a workout for crabbing attempts, going ashore and attending happy hour.

In attendance were Curlew, Tappit Hen, Limelight and Psamaead - with various experiences including nice kite runs and Kingfisher Resort lunch stop on the way down,  Big Woody Island shoreline viewed from both east and west, and some iron spinnaker work needed by some on the return journey in light conditions.
